Brooklyn Borough is celebrating the take off of the flight of the Vin Fiz in conjunction with their annual book festival occurring the weekend of September 17th and 18th.  They are hoping to include an author talk with writer Clive Clusser, who wrote the children’s book The Adventures of the Vin Fiz.

Middletown, NY

Middletown celebrates the first coast to coast flight with a replica of the Vin Fiz, built by Orange County Community College engineering students, which will be displayed at the Galleria Mall.  During the weekend, a slideshow of photos will be displayed throughout the mall.  A concert of early 1900s music will be performed by local students and local author, Vincent Begley will be promoting his new book Flying Lessons, a children’s book about a coast to coast air race.

The 34th Annual Falling Leaves Festival Parade will feature a float representing the Vin Fiz.  During the Falling Leaves Festival, held at Jefferson Street Park, window displays will be honoring the flight, as well as, articles in the local paper, website, and Salamanaca Historical Society newsletter.

Streator commemorates Cal Rodgers landing with a plaque and ceremony at Anderson Field where the Vin Fiz landed 100 years ago to the day.  To honor the occasion, a Wright plane replica will be flown in.  Speakers include a curator from the Dayton Museum, an astronaut, and a relative of the Wright Brothers.
